Student Artist Dedicates Custom Metal Fountain to Fresno County Superintendent of Schools
Jacob Cavazos, a skilled 12th-grade student from CTEC, recently unveiled his breathtaking fountain at the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools. This unique piece, inspired by the Fresno County Pillar, symbolizes the vital role that every individual in education plays in shaping the future.
In his dedication speech, Jacob shared his vision for the fountain, saying, "The Pillar represents everyone that makes up education—teachers, administration, support staff, people here in the county office, finances, human resources, special education, our superintendent, administrative assistants—everyone is a part of that pillar. You all bring strength to education."
The fountain features intricate metalwork and layers representing key moments in a student’s journey through education. Each layer is a reminder of the moments when the dedication and efforts of educators and staff impact students. Jacob explained, "Each of the layers are a moment when a student is impacted by one of you. The water represents the students, and as each drop comes down the layers, that student is growing in knowledge, and skills, strengthening who that individual will become."
At its base, the fountain’s rippling water symbolizes the broader community, connecting back to one of CTEC’s core values: Create an Impact. Jacob reflected on this value, saying, "At CTEC, we have a pillar called ‘Create an Impact.’ One of the images we use is of a pebble being thrown into the water, which creates a ripple effect, what that means for CTEC is that our actions have impacts on the individuals around us. The fountain creates that same ripple effect. The drop of water, which is the student, comes down the pillar of education, and is released into the community to make positive impacts on their community.”
Jacob also took time to acknowledge the many people who have shaped his journey. He expressed gratitude for his first-grade teacher, Ms. Bernabie, who recognized his artistic talent and has encouraged him ever since. He also thanked his teachers, Mr. K and Mr. Marino, for their guidance and encouragement, and his parents, who pushed him to attend CTEC so he could reach his full potential.
This beautiful fountain stands as both a work of art and a profound statement about the power of education. It is a testament to the dedication of educators and staff who create lasting impacts on students and their communities.
