Is CTEC a comprehensive high school?

CTEC is a comprehensive high school opened in August of 2018 to its first freshman class.  Each year an additional grade level will be added until CTEC is housed with 9 thru 12th grade students.  Students at CTEC take all courses required to receive their high school diploma.

Will my child be eligible for college?

Yes. Classes at CTEC will meet CSU and UC requirements, providing them with the opportunity to apply to any university within California or the nation.  Students will also have the opportunity to earn up to 60 units of college credit over their four years of instruction at CTEC.  60 units is the equivalent of 2 years of college instruction, which will include industry specific and UC-transferable courses.

Does my child need any prior CTE pathway experience?

There is no requirement for students to have prior CTE pathway experience. CTEC is designed to provide students with a comprehensive CTE experience over four years of instruction that prepares all students for industry and post-secondary instruction.

Are there any after-school opportunities for students at CTEC?

Yes, CTEC offers an extended day program available to students until 5:30. Students may take advantage of several different extracurricular activities. Students are encouraged to participate in our SkillsUSA program, which provides students with an opportunity to compete against students within the county, state and country showcasing their career and industry skills, learn computer coding/app development to enhance their computer knowledge, or engage in civic projects within the community. Academic success is of high importance at CTEC, and the extended day program provides students with additional support for English, science, and college courses. If students need a place to complete assignments or do further research, the multimedia library is available throughout the extended day program. 

What does a typical day look like at CTEC?

Research shows adolescents benefit from later start times. CTEC’s day starts around 8:30 and will finish approximately at 4:00. With the extended day program, students are able to stay on campus until 6:00. Students have three-course blocks four days a week; and a two-course block day on Monday. Students will participate in 8 classes and an advisory period throughout the week. 

Is transportation available for students at CTEC?

There is no transportation provided by CTEC or the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools, but through our partnership with Fresno City College and the City of Fresno, students will receive free public transportation through the Fresno Area Express (FAX). FAX has a drop off and pick up location within one block of the CTEC campus on Fresno street.

What does the school calendar year consist of for a CTEC student?

The CTEC school year has 176 school days. CTEC is on the semester system. CTEC students have one week of vacation for Thanksgiving and spring break, and three weeks for winter break. CTEC observes the following national holidays: Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Lincoln’s Birthday, President’s Day, and Memorial Day.

Are there any informational meetings/school tours available for prospective students?

CTEC’s campus is always open for prospective students and their parents to visit and seek further information regarding our program. The Fall Fest (October) and Spring Fest (May) are opportunities for prospective students to explore CTEC’s campus, learn about the academic program and engage in industry activities. Starting in February, more formal opportunities will be available for families to visit CTEC, see the construction progress and discover why CTEC is a great place for students to learn.

What are the requirements for a student to qualify for CTEC?

All students who reside in Fresno County, or a bordering county can apply for enrollment at CTEC. There are no GPA, extracurricular, or CTE pathway experience requirements. 

What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual Enrollment references college courses that CTEC students are able to take on CTEC campus at no cost to the student, parent or guardian. Students at CTEC are able to take up to 60 units of college credit while at CTEC. College courses that CTEC students can access include industry specific courses, as well as academic courses that are transferable to four-year universities. 

If I fill out an application is my child guaranteed a spot at CTEC?

CTEC will be accepting enrollment for 120 students for each freshman class. If there are more student applications than available spots at CTEC, then all applicants will participate in the student lottery to identify the 120 students selected for enrollment. All students not selected will be placed on a waiting-list and contacted when spots become available.

What support systems are available to help CTEC students?

CTEC will maintain small class sizes (24:1), programs which include advisory, extended day tutorial, special education and English Language support. At CTEC we believe in the development of the student as a whole, and focus our instruction and behavior support to encourage student well-being.

How are CTEC students connected to industry?

CTEC works alongside industry leaders to provide students with tours, guest speakers, guest instructors, mentoring, job shadowing, internships, mock interviews, and industry feedback on student projects. Students will also have the opportunity to work alongside industry by engaging in community projects throughout the course of the year.
